This History of Saurischia



2053 – An accident at Hypergen, a company specializing genetic manipulation results in five children becoming ill with a life threatening disease. They are placed in suspended animation pending the discovery of a cure. Four of the children are Ambrose, Mara, Delia, and Thaddeus. The fifth died at an unknown date when the life pod for that individual failed.

2107 - Dinosaurs are born again through cloning and genetic science.

2124 - The first android, the Public Janitorial Android System, network goes online

2145 - The Keeper android network goes online to act a zoo keeper for all of the dinosaur parks around the world. Its AI is vastly superior to others as it must adapt to the unpredictable nature of newly resurrected dinosaur species.

2250 - A sudden and massive meltdown world wide floods low lying areas Drastically altering the map.

2260 - The Technician Android Network fails. Humans now lack the knowledge to repair technology.

2260-2280 - As tech systems fail, biosciences morphs domestic animals into human servants and the Mammaloids are born.

2300 - The Earth enters a prolonged cooling period. Humans are forced to move to equatorial zones. Furry Mammaloids and feathered dinosarrs thrive in the now snowbound North America.

2415 – North America is renamed Saurischia by the now dominant population of Mammaloids.

2300 - ~5000 - The Time of Frost - Humans dwindle to a population of < 1 million and live exclusively in densely forested New Guinea now called the Dreamlands. They hold onto the vestiges of technology and celebrate a long ago past now embellished and altered. Generally post human, they live a life of illusion and smart matter. The dinosaurs become the dominant species in America. Herd mammals become extinct. Tribes of Mammaloids live in seclusion across Saurischia.

5231-5415 - The First War. Nayukon Grimm, leads a political revolt intended to force humans to return to a more non technical past so that they may "wake up" from their unending dream. Frustrated by setbacks, he leads a violent revolt. The revolt fails and he is banished to North America. Shortly after arriving, he meets the Keeper who helps him to survive. For a few years he thrives until he discovers that his hair is graying. He realizes that his immortality is lost. The keeper takes him to the ruins of Denver where some of the last vestiges of technology still work so that he may rediscover the secrets to immortality. After a few years he learns that the remaining equipment is simply inadequate for that purpose. The best he can do is to construct genetic monsters from his own DNA. He decides to use these monsters invade the Dreamlands, but they grow slowly and reproduce even slower. He uses his 13 monsters to seize control of a nearby Doggin tribe. He takes their pups and mutates them into a race of fast growing, fast reproducing soldiers which he calls Grimmwolves. Encounters between the Grimmwolves and other Doggin villages result in a low grade war. In 5272, Grimm destroys one of the Keeper nodes. Seeking a way to reach the Dreamlands, Grim seeks out the shipwrights among the Cat tribes of The Medlin Sea. They refuse and he attempts to have his armies seize the ships by force. The Cat tribes form a Cat nation for defense, but are unable to defeat Grim. Finally, the border collie Uranan, convinces the Doggin tribes of the Northwest to unite and fight a second front. The spear phalanxes of the Doggin armies are devastating to Grimm's forces, much more so than guerrilla tactics of the Cats. The Doggins overrun Grimm's fortress in Denver. Grim is killed by the Doberman Pinscher Arga Rahoon, who becomes the first king of the dogs. The remaining monsters and Grimmwolves are scattered.

5425 The Cat nation quickly disintegrates into individual city states and coastal colonies.

5426 - Arga Rahoon dies. His son Grudda Rahoon begins a long but unremarkable reign.

5429 - A long drought in the east starts a famine among the Har who have lived in small clans for millennia as foragers. Desperate for food, they begin hunting smaller dinosaurs for food using atlatls.

5435 - Finding hunting to be too difficult, the Har begin domesticating sauropods.

5570 - The smartest of Grimm’s monsters, a long lived humanoid with alien large eyes called Magok by the Doggins and Grimmwolves, Cahedgak by Cats, and Kedguk by the Har returns to Grimmsruk and creates the Slyn, snake necked soldiers with small tough bodies to carry a shield and hooked pole arm.

5580-5621 - The Great War. Magok’s Slyn allied with Grimwolfs conquer many Doggin and Cat lands, driving the remnants into the Har lands where their advance is halted, but not reversed by the Har with their fast Theropod mounted minispear throwers. Magok is deposed in a coup by a group of thirteen, nearly immortal greater Slyn known as the Nagaslyn. By the end of the year their incompetence has allowed the Mammaloid forces under the leadership of Kinsa the Great (a boxer) to turn the war and capture Grimruk. Magok vanishes, the Nagaslyn retreat north and the Slyn and Grimmwolves are scattered.

5623-5655 - Kinsa builds the fortress of Grimmwatch in the shadow of Grimmsruk. Around it the city of Kinsareg grows. The light age begins where peace reigns for two centuries.

5771 - The mostly Cat harbor town of Talisrant suffers repeated attacks from a strange cloaked figure. A Cat hero, Captain Liasa tracks the monster to its layer to discover that it is one of the last of an Android network built to maintain the nuclear arsenal. It has gone "mad" as other nodes have gone offline. Liasa and her party destroy the android, but not before it activates its ICBM. The missile explodes in the silo creating a 100 mile radius wasteland of glass called the Crystal Sea. Liasa is rembered in song.

5870 - 5875 - The Ghostwar. From across the sea comes the human Marovun. He is a serial killer who has escaped from the Humans, but is pursued by a dreamship. He finds the Nagaslyn and promises them Saurischia in exchange for armies to help him conquer the Dreamlands. Using his powers of illusion, he engineers the fall of Kinsareg through treachery. When the Nagaslyn return to Grimmsruk, they steal the ancient gene manipulation technology and bring it back to their fortress of Ssrak in the north. Marovun sees that he is the only one who can read the ancient instruction manuals and operate the computers. He uses this as leverage to control the Nagaslyn. He helps them to create monsters, but is unable to make a superior soldier beast to the Slyn or Grimmwolves. The best he can do is to create Spybats. One of the Nagaslyn however, angered by Marovuns control, contacts a Cat trader name Selovet and tells him about the Dreamship. However he is seen by Spybats. In a naval battle with a Slyn vessel, Selovet is killed. His first mate, a Har named Thimpurnis takes up the quest to find the Dreamship. He eventually tracks it across the continent to the skies above the eastern mountains. He names those humans Godlings. Using illusions, the Godlings and their dreamship turn the tide of the war. Eventually, they capture Marovun and the Ghostwar ends. The humans of the dreamship park the ship off the Southwest coast. Over the next millennium, they establish other Godling strongholds in remote locations.

5875 - 7000 - Most Mammaloids divide in to small secluded kingdoms as the dinosaur population explodes with warming temperatures. The Har kindoms of the southeast establish a rigid feudal society with almost constant internal warfare. The Cats populate mostly coastal towns and trade throughout the continent. Their ships and towns are always peopled by a mixed populace. The Cats themselves don't get along with one another well. The Doggins spread across the North acting as a line of protection from the Grimmwolf tribes and the periodic invasions of the Slyn. The Southwest becomes a wild jungle populated by monsters and dinosaurs.

7053 - Ambrose, Mara, Delia, and Thaddeus wake up.
